I couldn’t but believe that technology has done more good than harm especially towards the use of mobile phones and mobile networks. I vividly can remember how life was before the inception of the use of mobile phone technology in Nigeria. Those days, people would queue up for hours just to use public pay phones not to talk of huge amount of money they spend in the process.

But now, not only that we can comfortably communicate with anyone in any part of the world costing us little or nothing, we can have our bank transactions successfully completed without the aid of internet. This is awesome! Day after day we keep trying out something new like shopping online, paying bills, and even making money.

Previously we discussed on how we can make use of USSD codes for bank transactions and how easy the steps towards achieving that can be, taking note of the dangers we are exposed to when doing that.

Today, we will be looking at two commercial banks in Nigeria with respect to their USSD codes for such transactions.

For GTB (Guarantee Trust Bank)

Am always excited whenever this bank is mentioned, believe me am not advertising for them, but due to how they have committed themselves in making it possible for we Nigerians to make online transaction even when we are to pay in foreign currencies. Their exchange rate has been encouraging.

How to open an Account

Simply dial *737*0# and follow the onscreen prompts. An account number will be created automatically and sent to you via SMS. Account opening forms are NOT required for the signup process. Once you sign up, look out for your ten-digit account number (NUBAN). You can also use your phone number as your account number at GTBank branches, GTExpress outlets.

·Once you have a GTBank account, you are automaticaly profiled for all *737# services

·When a customer visits your store to perform a *737# CashOut, he/she should dial *737*99#Amount*PhoneNumber#

·The Customer is debited the inputted amount +100

·Your account with the Bank will be credited with the amount +50

·An Email/SMS notification will be sent to your contact details registered with the Bank.

Guidelines to Using 737 Cash-Out-Service as a Customer

·Visit any Merchant’s store with the 737 Cashout service

·Then dial *737*99*Amount*Phone Number# on your mobile phone registered with the bank.

·Input 737 PIN or the last 4 digits of your debit card to authorize the transaction

·Your account with the Bank is debited immediately and the merchant gets credited

·An Email/SMS notification will be sent to your contact details registered with the Bank.
