Another chance

Kate was nearly raped by her drunk father (Mr Duke) when she was a teenager. Mrs Duke who had long endured her irresponsible husband had to leave with her daughter Kate. This made Kate grow up with the mindset that men are evil and swore to have nothing to do with any man. Each time Mr Duke would come to apologize to his wife and daughter Kate, Kate would stop him threatening to commit suicide if her mother reconcile with him. The truth is that Mrs. Duke had long forgiven him but for the fear of her daughter refused to accept him back.

Kate grew up as an independent and strong lady, she studied criminal law and headed a non-governmental organization that fight for the justice of rape victims.

Alba is an intelligent, rich young man but was a player and lived with his mother (Mrs. Brown). His father was late and Alba bothered not to ask what killed his father. Each time Mrs. Brown would want to tell him about his father but he would refuse to listen to her.

One morning as Alba was rushing out for work, her mother stopped him and forced him to sit down and listen to her. She started to narrate how his father died. In her words: you were critically ill when you were 6 years old. You needed blood urgently but there was none that could match yours available. Your father couldn’t donate though he was the same blood type as you because of his heart condition. So we watched you die as time went by. When your father realized how great you would become and what it took us to have you and that we couldn’t have another, he decided to take the risk. He refused to listen to doctor’s warning and mine, we have no other choice he said to me. He donated the blood but died in weeks’ time. His sacrifice was to save a son who he believed have a great future and not a son who would live a wayward life. That’s why I cry for you every day. Before Mrs. Brown could finish, Alba’s eyes were filled with tears. So Alba resolved to turn over a new leaf. When Alba met his 3 friends and told them he is a changed man, two of them left him and continued their rough life while one (Charles) decided to change.

Bella (one of Alba’s girlfriends) was a rough lady who believed she can have whatever she wanted. When she heard of Alba’s resolution, she joined hands with Alba’s 2 friends to frame him up. They accused Alba of rape and got him jailed after an incident they fashioned as evidence.

Alba was still in police custody when Charles told him of Kate, he asked Charles to get her to defend him. When Charles went to meet Kate, she told him that she handles female victims of rape and not a suspect accused of rape. Charles further persuasion proved abortive. Alba later hired another lawyer but when he found out he was losing the case, he fired the lawyer. He had no other option than to go back to Kate but this time he sent his mother. Kate explained to Mrs. Brown the kind of case she handles and that she can’t help her son. When Mrs. Brown narrated everything to her, Kate was convinced that Alba was innocent and promised her that she will help Alba.

Kate couldn’t listen to her friend’s discouragement towards her helping Alba even when they told her the case would dent her reputation. When she went to see Alba, at sight they couldn’t stop looking at each other. Kate told him she was doing this because of his mother (Mrs. Brown). As she left after discussing the case with Alba, she started seeing reasons why she should forgive her father (Mr. Duke) but she didn’t know why she felt that way. She went forth to gather enough evidence, defended and proved Alba was innocent.

After his freedom, Alba approached Kate and thanked her for helping him but Kate told him she did it for his mother’s sake and nothing else. Alba knew something else was going on in her heart but kept quiet. As Alba pressed on to win Kate’s heart, Kate’s girlfriends were against him because they knew him as a player. After much contest, their love won against all. They shared their experiences and agreed to spend their life together forever.

Alba went forth to reconciled Kate and her father (Mr. Duke), he succeeded and reconciled Kate’s family. This was possible because Kate have had a change of mind when she met Alba earlier.

In 3 months’ time Alba and Kate got married. Mrs. Brown was so proud of who her son have become and his wonderful marriage. In about a year time after their wedding, they were blessed with a male child.

Alba’s two other friends and Bella regretted their evil act, they came and apologized to Alba, he forgave them and they promised him they have changed for good. But their relationship with him was not as before as they couldn’t stand his presence.
