Bugged

Festus is the only son of a business tycoon Mr. Richard. Mr. Richard sent Festus to the university hoping that Festus would replace him when he is old and not fit to handle his business. Mr. Richard’s hope was dashed to the dust when he was called that his son is addicted to drugs and not fit to study anymore until he is rehabilitated.

Several months Festus was in the rehabilitation centre, he responded to treatment and was due for discharge and returned to school. Mr. Richard had mixed feelings in the discharge of his son unlike his wife who was happy. Mr. Richard’s fear was that his son might go back to his old friends who misled him.

Mr. Richard had a plan which would help him make sure his son did not go back again to his old ways. He decided to watch over him, but he cannot make it to Festus’s school and to his work also. So Mr. Richard rented a self contained apartment for Festus and bugged it. So from work and home his eyes were on the screen watching over his heir. Sometimes he had sleepless night just to make sure things are well with Festus.

Mr. Richard observed how gradual Festus’s old friends are returning. He knew something would be wrong soon, so he increased his visiting frequency and his eyes always on screen anytime Festus is home. This affected Mr. Richard’s performance at work and Festus would feel uncomfortable anytime he visits him. Meanwhile Festus’s old friends penetrated him and pressured him to take drugs again.

Mr. Richard was working one sunny afternoon when something caught his attention. Festus was sniffing one white powered substance, Mr. Richard could not hold himself, he picked his phone and called Festus. Festus was shocked when he saw his father’s call, he quickly discarded the substance and picked the call. His voice was shaky as he answered the call. For Festus not to know he bugged him, Mr. Richard acted smartly and asked Festus to go and check on his niece, Miggy. Festus was relieved and quickly left as he dropped the call. As time goes on, Mr. Richard interrupts with a call and errand anytime Festus acted strange when at his apartment.

One day Festus figured out that such interruption occurred at his apartment only and not elsewhere, so he decided to prove his point. He brought a cosmetic powder and tried to smell it closely outside his apartment, he noticed his father did not interrupt. Then he went inside and tried the same, immediately the father called. There and then he confronted his father as he discovers the hidden cameras.

Mr. Richard knew there was trouble after the incident, so he rushed down to Festus’s apartment. He had tried to discuss the matter with Festus but could not find the right time. When he got to Festus apartment, Festus was furious on him blaming him for his misfortune, that he was too protective and possessive. Mr. Richard apologized to him and explained his sleepless nights and the restlessness he suffered just to make sure all is well with him, all he did out of love. Mr. Richard realized his mistakes even as Festus promised to change for good and to discard totally his old friends. Festus begged his father to leave the room bugged as that will help him to live up to expectation knowing that someone’s eyes are on him.

As Mr. Richard continued to watch over him, he observed Festus had changed for good. Now he can focus on work and Festus would make funny gestures on him leaving him laughing all day.
