Story: Family Bond

Sage and Clarion had been married for 7 years and had lived happily. They
have two children Trane (a boy) and Reene (a girl).

One day something spectacular happened that changed their life though temporary. Clarion went off to a supermarket along the street to get some stuff for dinner. She left Renne which is the younger under the custody of Sage to take care of her until she is back. Sage was engulfed by a business article on the newspaper he was reading. As Trane was busy playing his video game, Renne walked out of the balcony as she always does, but this time she was not under watch. Renne climb the balcony’s protector and was about falling off when Clarion saw her. Out of shock she rushed upstairs to help her because shouting might scare and she would fall and die. The sound of Clarion’s footstep awakened Sage from the slumber of the interesting article. Before he could understand what was going on, Clarion had saved Reene. Clarion was so mad that she refused to hear Sage’s apology, which might be because of what she passed through as she carried Renne to term. The attitude of not trying to hear Sage out also angered Sage that he vowed not apologize again and was even ready for whatever that might come next.

The once sweet couple and near perfect family turned to a dump home because both no longer talk to each other except their children. This continued for months that the neighbors and the extended family members noticed. The individual and collective efforts of family members, neighbors and church brethren could not avert the problem. They all got tired and left them to settle whenever they become tired of quarreling.

Trane was old enough to know what was happening and most of all annoyed because of the quarrel but never gave up like others in bringing his parents back together again.

Finally an idea clicked in his young mind. After saying his little prayers he decided to try it out. All these while Sage and Clarion was engrossed in their anger that they did not think about carefully the effect of their actions on their children. So that faithful evening Clarion ordered Trane to go bring Renne so she might change her diaper, she would have gone herself but could not because she was with her father. To her surprise Trane said he would not go, when Clarion asked why he replied that they are not in good terms. When she asked further, he told her that she broke her video game pad. When Clarion replied, “and you cannot forgive your sister”, he used her same word she used at the day of her quarrel with Sage and that word was the last Clarion said to Sage until that day. And Sage was listening to their conversation from afar.

Sage and Clarion were shocked by his replies, so they went forth to make an explanation, from the explanation they talked to each other and that was the end of that issue as they apologized to each other and their children.
