Forgiven

Presley was a hot-headed teen who usually seek dominion over his peers. Everyone was afraid of him except Gade. Presley lived with his grandfather while Gade lived with his parents and siblings.

One day there ensued a fight between Presley and Gade. The fight was so fierce that everyone present wanted Gade to teach Presley an unforgettable lesson of his life. When Presley noticed his pride would be thrown to the ground if Gade have victory over him, he brought out a gun to scare Gade. Everyone thought it was a toy gun, no one believed any teen in their hood could handle a real gun talk more of getting it loaded. The same Gade thought as he ignored Presley’s threat and approached him to finish him off to earn back his respect. But everyone was surprised by the sound of the gun and the sight of the bleeding Gade.

When they saw the blood gushing out from the side of Gade’s right rib, they were frightened and took to their heels. Some adults in the vicinity who also heard the noise summoned courage and approached the scene but their eyes could not believe what they saw. Before they can manage to get Gade to the hospital, he died.

When the police get to Presley’s place, his grandfather not knowing why they came told them he had not come back since morning. Later a neighbor disclosed to him what Presley had done.

The search for Presley continued but no one could find him. Rose and Dare, Gade’s parents could not bear the sudden death of their son and sought justice. After several months, Presley not yet found, Gade’s family decided to leave Midtown because everything about Midtown reminded them of Gade.

Years came and gone, in Valleyhill where they now resides, Dare worked as a church counselor while Rose worked as a seamstress. There was a couple who recently attended Love deeds Church and was new to Valleyhill. They were committed to the church.

3 months after the couple came, they began to have problems. The husband accused the wife of adultery which the wife agreed on and pleaded him to forgive her. Things were getting out of hand when the husband related the issue to the pastor who brought him to Dare. When discussing with Dare, he swore to divorce his wife that she is no longer worthy of him. Dare pleaded with him to forgive that even Christ forgave those who accused him falsely and killed him. When Dare noticed he had made up his mind already and also that he would be lying if he say he knew how he felt, Dare decided to tell him a story. In his words, “one day my teenage son told me he was going to return a book to his friend and left. On his way to his friend’s place, he got into a fight and was killed in the process. We tried all we could to get justice for our son, but the killer escaped. We bore this burden in our hearts for years. But at the 7th year of his death my wife and I agreed to forgive the killer.”

When Dare looked up, the man was crying, when he asked what went wrong, the man replied he was and is Presley they had been searching for, the same that killed Gade. Presley also said he had gone back to Midtown to seek their forgiveness but did not find them.

Presley was reunited with his wife, he forgave her just as Dare and Rose forgave him. Presley and his wife became their (Dare and Rose) family friend.
